Mayor wants change with medical marijuana law

Posted

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts is pushing for changes with Michigan's medical marijuana laws, after a house explosion and a fire earlier this week.

"I think legislators need to wake up and look at potential dangers of having medical marijuana grow ops in residential neighborhoods," Fouts said.

Fouts said a man with a medical marijuana card used butane to refine and concentrate the drug, and that led to an explosion so powerful it blew the freezer through the back of the home.

Right now, no arrests have been made, and police are still investigating.

Fouts said there have also been two fires in Warren related to grow operations, where high heat lighting has put a strain on the electrical sytem.

Soon, he said he will present proposed changes to city council, which include having medical marijuana grow homes inspected.
