(WXYZ) — As chaos ensued at the US Capitol in Washington, D.C., lawmakers were in the face of danger.

Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee shared a dramatic video of the breach with 7 Action News.

Kildee was trapped inside the House chamber when the mob was outside the main door.

The video shows Capitol Police and Chamber Security with guns drawn and barricading the door with a bench.

"We could hear popping. It was either tear gas or shots being fired," Kildee said. "We were in that situation for 20 minutes. It was frightening."

He was evacuated to an undisclosed location before returning to certify the electoral votes. He describes the day as a dark moment for the history of the country.

He urges President Trump to step down but doesn't believe he will give up the office.

"Resign. Quit. You are unfit for this office," Kildee said. "You are a danger to the American people."
