(WXYZ) — A Royal Oak man was sentenced to 8 months in jail in connection with a fatal car crash on southbound I-75 and Mack in Detroit in April 2018.

Douglas Muller, 25, reportedly caused the crash that killed Shelby Seyburn, 22, of Commerce Township, and Sydney Zaleski, 23, of White Lake.

The women were in the back of a Jeep that was struck as a result of a chain reaction crash "caused by Muller's reckless driving," Prosecutor Kym Worthy said.

Zaleski and Seyburn were childhood friends. Eight others were injured in the crash that involved five vehicles.

In addition to the jail time, Muller will be on probation for two years.
