After being closed for more nearly a month, southbound M-5 has reopened between 12 Mile and Maple in Novi and Commerce Township. That means it's time for the northbound lanes to close beginning at 12 p.m. Monday.
According to MDOT, the northbound lanes are expected to be closed for around the same period of time, 3-4 weeks, before completion in late June. The road is closed from 12 Mile to Pontiac Trail.
In addition to the closure, westbound M-5 ramp to northbound M-95 will be closed and northbound I-275 to northbound M-5.
The east and westbound I-96 ramps to northbound M-5 will be open to 12 Mile where drivers must exit.
All roads crossing M-5 will remain open with one lane open in each direction through the intersections.
The closure of M-5 during construction will improve the safety of the work zone by restricting drivers from entering the work area, endangering themselves and workers.
