Several people & restaurants from metro Detroit named James Beard Award semifinalists

(WXYZ) — The James Beard Awards announced the 2020 restaurant and chief award semifinalists on Wednesday, and there are several restaurants and people from metro Detroit.

Saffron De Twah, on Detroit's east side, is a semifinalist for the Best New Restaurant. The casual Moroccan bistro from Chef Omar Anani opened in 2019 to rave reviews.

Lisa Ludwinski of Sister Pie was once again nominated for Outstanding Baker.

Sugar House in Corktown is a nominee for Outstanding Bar Program, and Sameer Eid and Samy Eid, of Phoenicia, Forest, and Leila, were nominated for Outstanding Restaurateur.

Lena Sareini of Selden Standard - Rising Star Chef of the Year
Andy Hollyday of Selden Standard - Best Chef: Great Lakes
Mike Random of Ima - Best Chef: Great Lakes
Sarah Welch of Marrow - Best Chef: Great Lakes
Ji Hye Jim of Miss Kim in Ann Arbor - Best Chef: Great Lakes
James Rigato of Mabel Gray in Hazel Park - Best Chef: Great Lakes

The final restaurant and chef award nominees will be announced in Philadelphia on Wednesday, March 25 and the 2020 James Beard Awards Gala will take place in Chicago on Monday, May 4.
