(WXYZ) — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has only a few days left in office. Time he's still using to make critical rulings on important legislation.
At Southfield Fire Station 3, a proposed baby box could have been implemented. Instead, some are expressing disappointment over the governor's veto.
In one of Snyder's final acts as governor, he vetoed "baby box" legislation that would have given Michigan parents surrendering an unwanted infant the ability to place them in a newborn safety device at a hospital, police or fire station.
Also, Snyder signed a bill by State Senator-Elect Pete Lucido of Shelby Township making cyberbullying a crime punishable by up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine. It could rise to a felony with harsher penalties if a pattern exists, which is legislation that's getting support.
Another important signature by Snyder authorizes oral care to be performed by "dental therapists." It's aims at extending access to dental care. The therapists would be allowed to do a variety of routine procedures previously limited to dentists. However, some people aren't sold on it.
