On Sunday, March 13, the people of Michigan will "spring forward," and lose an hour of sleep as Daylight Saving Time begins. On Thursday, two State Representatives renewed their call to end what they say is the "worst day of the year."

Rep. Peter Lucido (R - Shelby Township) and Jeff Irwin (D - Ann Arbor), each have a bill in the Michigan House that would set Michigan on Standard Time year-round. Currently, both bills are in the House Committee on Government Operations.

"It is time to stop Springing Forward and Falling Back," Lucido said in a statement. "Let's dispense with this failed Daylight Saving Time experiment."

Irwin said he wants Sunday to be the last time we lose an hour of sleep.

"Twice a year, we volunteer for more car accidents, less productivity and more crankiness. We should stop," Irwin said.

According to the representatives, they would consider amending their bill depending on what the public wants.

"We'd also support setting the state permanently on Daylight Time, if the sum of the testimony at the committee hearing indicates that would be better," Irwin added.
