Teen cancer survivor gets trip to Super Bowl

Posted

It's said that our friends sometimes know us better than we know ourselves.

"How do you think he's going to react to this?"

"I don't even know if he's going to be able to react to this," Chippewa Valley sophomore Justin Bartlett said. "He's probably going to just sit there and be like 'what's going on?'"

Is he a crier?

"He's too strong. He's too strong for all he's been through," added fellow sophomore Jake Czarnik.

Of course these lifelong friends are all referring to their hero, classmate Eugene Williams. Who got quite the surprise today in 5th period.

"You are going to the Super Bowl! How do you feel?" Questioned Eugene's friend Jeff Lancaster.

"Good," replied Eugene.

I can promise you, Eugene's excitement to getting an all-expenses paid trip to Super Bowl 50 this weekend is out of this world, even if he doesn't show it.

In fact, Eugene's known about the trip for awhile, and it perhaps helped save his life.

"At the doctors office they actually told him, to try and boost his spirits and everything," Said mother Eugenia Williams.

He found out he was going to the Super Bowl during the *second* round of chemotherapy treatments to battle Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. A cancer in the nose and throat that nearly claimed his life.

"If you can imagine your worst nightmare, that doesn't even begin to scrape the surface of the type of emotional roller coaster you're on," Eugenia added.

So with the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Eugene and his family take off tomorrow for a once in a lifetime Super Bowl 50 experience, as they celebrate life. Eugene is now cancer free.

And while Cam Newton has made the dab famous, Ladies and gentlemen, I can promise you the real Superman will be in the Bay Area this weekend.
