Students help at Detroit VA Hospital for Salute to Veteran Patients

Posted

National Salute to Veteran Patients is next week, but some high school students got ahead start at the Detroit VA hopsital.

Some vets were shown a little love today with valentine's and candy.

Army Veteran Larry Davis said, "These cards always lift your spirits up. They always do."

Students from L'Anse Cruse High School passed out candy and valentine's to vets at the Detroit VA hopsital.

Student Angel Schultz said, "They risked their lives to help us out, so you got to really appreciate them."

"You never know what a vet is going through," said Larry.

That is just the start of many festivities to observe National Salute to Veterans Patients week.

It gives students like Angel a chance to bring a smile to a vet.

"Happy Valentine's Day! Thank you for your service and they say, 'Aw thank you.' It makes me happy gives me a little warm spot in my heart," she said. "I like to hear the things they say. It's makes me happy, as I make them happy, little things that count."

Larry added, "That's a blessing for us and it's a blessing for them because they get to talk to a vet and they might want to join the service."

National Salute to Veteran Patients week technically starts this Sunday but for the folks at the Detroit VA hopsital, they hope that feeling of appreciation lasts throughout the year
