(WXYZ) — A popular stunt jump to kick off this week's Detroit Autorama has officially been canceled.

Detroit City Council would not approve the event because the last time it happened, the car involved was The General Lee, which has a Confederate flag on its roof.

Organizers promised a Confederate flag would not be part of the stunt again.

This year's stunt jump would have involved a replica of the Firebird Trans Am used in the "Smokey and the Bandit" movies, which has the old Georgia State flag on the front license plate - which included the Confederate battle flag.

On Monday, Autorama officials gave up the fight to try to get this year's stunt approved.
