A suspected flu outbreak has sickened hundreds of children in the Kalamazoo area and leaders have decided to shut down three school districts today.
Kalamazoo Public Schools, Gull Lake Community Schools in Richland and Climax-Scotts Public Schools are all closed today.
According to a Facebook post from Kalamazoo Public Schools, approximately 1,900 children were absent, sent home sick or complained of flu-like symptoms on Thursday.
The district said closing Friday would allow students to recover and give crews time to disinfect buildings.
Climax-Scotts Public Schools and Gull Lake Community Schools also blamed illnesses for the districts' closures.
