BENZIE COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police responded to reports of a plane crash at an airport in Benzie County.

On Thursday, July 9 around 8:43 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post were called to a plane crash at Thompsonville Airport in Weldon Township.

The plane was a Cessna twin engine. The pilot, a 57-year-old man from Swanton, Ohio was not injured and the only occupant in the plane. The pilot stated he was flying from Pellston Airport (KPLN) to the Thompsonville Airport (K7YN) and may have been distracted and forgot to put down the landing gear.

The plane first touched down halfway down the runway and came to rest after sliding approximately 200 to 250 yards. The plane was intact with damage to the underside and propellers.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
