Dr. Farid Fata was convicted in one of the largest health care frauds in history - pumping chemo into patients who didn't need it to swindle Medicare and other insurance companies out of millions.
His surviving victims and their family members were left with the scars, both physical and emotional.
Hundreds of them claim they got letters this past week, leaving them outraged. The letters say their claims for restitution aren't enough.
"There are 735 people that filed for restitution. Which means out of pocket expenses for funeral costs [etc.]. Most of them have been denied that money," says Geraldine Parkin, who's husband was a patient of Fata.
She moderates a Facebook page that is filled with victims stories of claims denied - claims that were to split nearly $12 million dollars in restitution.
In addition, a small number of those who filed civil suits are having insurance claims denied as well.
Victims have until late August to answer the denial letters. Most don't have the documents being asked for and are at a loss of what to do.
There will be another hearing before a judge in November to discuss this.
