DETROIT (WXYZ) — It's time to do some spring cleaning!

Many of our public parks rely on volunteers. On Saturday, volunteers cleaned up hundreds and hundreds of pounds of trash from Belle Isle park and the water.

Belle Isle's annual spring cleaning event prepares the 982-acre park to entertain guests all spring and summer.

Rakes and yard tools were in hand as volunteers spent all morning tidying up the entire island.

For many, it's an annual tradition for some it was the first time.

All of the trash pulled out of the water was weighed and then hauled away. Trees and bushes were pruned, grass was raked. It's amazing how much can be accomplished in just a few hours when people in the community work together.
