REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Water continues to leak from Ashely Boone's water line below her mobile home in Redford Township. She told Action News it's been an issue since June; she still has hot water for now, but the pressure is getting worse.
“Pretty soon the shower aint even going to kick on anymore because there’s no pressure," she said.
Boone is a single mother and worries that once the water starts to freeze, she'll need to find a new place to live. It's pooling below her home, out onto the street, and in her and another tenant's yards.
Texts between her and management company Plymouth Court MHC, which is out-of-state, dating back weeks show little progress in actually getting the issue fixed. One text dated Nov. 4 said a plumber would be to Boone's and other affected units to deal with the leak, but Boone said the plumber never actually took the job and the issue remains unfixed.
“They’ll be coming out early next week. That was two weeks ago," she said. "Like it’s just growing, it’s flooding, trash is still piled up as well."
This headache comes after a series of headaches for Boone, who's lived at Plymouth Court, formerly Long's Mile Home Court, for 11 years.
Back in May of 2019, she and other residents feared their water would be shut off due to the owner not paying the water bill to Redford Township. The bill was paid just in time and they avoided a shutoff, but the issues didn't stop there.
In September, a group of tenants filed a lawsuit against the out-of-state companies that own and operate the park, claiming they breached their obligations by failing to provide basic maintenance and repairs.
Boone said problems with management have lead to many people leaving the park.
“A lot of the senior citizens have moved out," she said. “I have a few places to stay if need be, thankfully. But I don’t have to uproot in the middle of winter right now. We can’t live like this anymore. Nobody can.”
Action News has attempted multiple times to contact management; we have not yet heard back.
