It’s tax season and that means you need to take heed and not fall victim to scams.
A woman in Livonia received a scam phone call and she wants to warn others.
Betty L. Duffy said she returned home from dinner and had a phone message from someone claiming to be the Internal Revenue Service.
The automated call threatened arrest because fraud had been found on her tax filing.
"I was shocked, then I had to listen to it again so I could write some of it down,” said Duffy.
She called her tax preparer and the Livonia Police Department, because she immediately knew something was off.
Police told her she did the right thing and to ignore the call. They are getting more scam calls because it is tax season.
Duffy got angry the scammers targeted her and she wants others to be alert.
"It just kind of startled me, I'm in a different predicament right now, I'm alone and the kids are out of state, so I was annoyed,” said Duffy.
If you get a call or email that seems suspicious, don’t pay any money right away. Call your local police.
