DETROIT (WXYZ) -- The Tigers announced Friday night that they have agreed to a one-year contract with utility player Mike Aviles.

In a release, general manager Al Avila said, "Mike is a veteran player that we are very familiar with from his time playing with the Royals and Indians. He is a versatile player that can play multiple positions and provides the depth we were looking for to help fill out our roster."

Aviles played six different positions over the course of 98 games for Cleveland in 2015. During that time he hit .231 with 5 home runs and 17 RBI.

Aviles holds a .265 career batting average in eight MLB seasons.

In a corresponding 40-man roster move, the Tigers designated pitcher Kyle Lobstein for assignment.
