Detroit Sports Commission submits bids for 54 NCAA championship events

The Detroit Sports Commission announced on Monday is has submitted bids to host 54 different NCAA Championship events in connection with local universities and organizations.

Those include the University of Detroit Mercy, Oakland University, Wayne State University, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Adrian College, Olympia Entertainment and the Detroit Lions.

In all, they have bid for 15 championship events in nine sports in multiple years.

“The process was very extensive, but exciting to be a part of,” DSC Executive Director Dave Beachnau said in a release. “The effort put in from our team, the host institutions and our local sports organizations was tremendous and we’re proud of this collaborative effort as well as the future impact it could have on our community."

The finalists will be announced on Oct. 26 with the selections made on Dec. 7.
