Tom Gage has been busy since being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last July. But perhaps his greatest journey is ahead of him.
"I'm getting ready for my first grandchild!" Gage said enthusiastically.
But that's not all he's been up to.
"The Men and the Moments that Made the Detrot Tigers, The Big 50" a book written, directed, costarring, Tom Gage," Host of the 7 SportsCave Justin Rose added as Gage cohosted the show in May.
You know what they say, you can take the writer out of the game but you can't take the game out from the writer. After 39 years at the Detroit News, Gage still has more to share.
"I still have thoughts in my head and I can do a different type of writing now. A combination of reporting and research, and I love the research part of it, it filled in the blanks that I had about Tigers history, I knew about Greenberg, I knew about Gehringer and Heilmann but now I know more about them," Gage said.
Gage says he'll consider writing another book, and he assured me, there's countless more tales to tell, but in a career filled with satisfaction, there's one story that regrettably, cannot be told.
"I didn't get to sit down with Mike Ilitch and I really regret that, because what I wanted to do with Mike Ilitch is just hear about his love of baseball, because he played baseball, he was good at baseball, he knew baseball and I didn't want to talk about the Tigers, I wanted to talk about him and baseball," Gage added.
