Wings-Avs warmest regular season outdoor game

Posted
DENVER (AP) -- Talk about a heated rivalry: The game between the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche was a balmy 65 degrees at puck drop, making this the NHL's warmest regular-season outdoor game.

Before Saturday night, the warmest game-time temperature was 62 degrees on Jan. 25, 2014, when Los Angeles hosted Anaheim at Dodger Stadium.

With the sun going down at Coors Field, though, the temperature was expected to fall into the 50s by the third period.

The coldest game in the outdoor series was Nov. 22, 2003, when Edmonton hosted Montreal. The temperature that day was zero degrees with a severe wind chill.
