The Detroit Red Wings have placed goaltender Jimmy Howard on the 7-day injured reserve following a groin injury in Saturday's game against the New Jersey Devils.
With the move, they have recalled goaltender Jared Coreau from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Coreau, 25, has appeared in 13 games for the Griffins. He has a 2.39 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.
It is expected Petr Mrazek will start while Howard is on IR.
They also placed defenseman Alexey Marchenko on the 7-day injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 20.
The earliest game Howard would be able to return is Saturday, Dec. 3 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
