Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist has been suspended six games for a high-stick in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild, according to TSN.

Nyquist was offered an in-person hearing with the NHL to discuss the hit. He waived his right to an in-person hearing on Monday, and a phone hearing was conducted on Wednesday.

Late in the first period of Sunday's game, Nyquist got tied up with Minnesota's Jared Spurgeon in the boards.

Visibly frustrated, Nyquist raised his stick and speared Spurgeon in the face. He was given a double-minor penalty but stayed in the game. See the hit below.

This is the first time Nyquist has been suspended.

The 27-year-old has appeared in 57 games for the Red Wings this season, scoring seven goals and adding 22 assists.

Right now, it's not clear who will replace Nyquist or if the Red Wings will bring someone up from Grand Rapids.
