The Detroit Red Wings have recalled goaltender Jimmy Howard from the Grand Rapids Griffins where he was doing a rehabilitation stint.
Howard, 32, was assigned to the team for conditioning on Feb. 4 and played in two games. He hasn't played since Dec. 20 after injuring his knee, and he will remain on injured reserve after leaving Wednesday's Griffins game in the third period.
The team also placed defenseman Jonathan Ericsson on long-term injured reserve after he fractured his wrist. Reports say he will have surgery on the wrist and miss the rest of the season.
