Stand up and tell ‘em you’re from Detroit!
Tony Geftos is honored to return to WXYZ where he interned during the Summer of 1997! The 5x regional Emmy award winner spent the past 26 years as an Anchor/MMJ at WTVG, the ABC affiliate in Toledo, OH, not far from where he grew up in Downriver Detroit.
Tony is a licensed drone pilot, a former adjunct instructor at The University of Toledo, and a former president of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors (2018-19). Outside of work, Tony plays alto saxophone in various community bands and enjoys everyday adventures with his wife and their two children.
Tony attended Christ the Good Shepherd in Lincoln Park, MI, and graduated from Riverview Community High School. He's a proud alumnus of Western Michigan University, where he was a four-year member of the Bronco Marching Band and part of the radio evolution at 89.1 FM WIDR, Kalamazoo.
Prior to working in Toledo, Tony was an interpretive park ranger at the Silent City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho, where he contributed to the Times-News in Twin Falls, ID.
He transitioned to television as a reporter at KGWC-TV in Casper, WY, where he met his wife while playing opposite leads in a Stage III Community Theatre production of “I Hate Hamlet.” His second broadcasting job was at KKFX-TV in Santa Barbara where Tony fell in love with the Central Coast of California. Still, there's no town like Motown!
