Spring and summer in Michigan also mean the return of construction season. Southbound I-275 is currently closed for the Revive 275 project from the M-5/I-96/I-696 interchange and 5 Mile.
Now, as part of the project, there will be nightly and weekend lane closures for a 9-mile stretch on I-696.
According to MDOT, two lanes of westbound I-696 will be closed from Middlebelt to I-275 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. every night beginning Monday. At 11 p.m., a third lane will close leaving only one lane open.
The closure will continue for the next two weeks, and once done, the crew will continue to work on westbound I-696 from Lahser to Middlebelt.
The first full closure of the highway is scheduled for 9 p.m. on Friday, May 20 through 5 a.m. on Monday, May 23.
