A slow moving system sitting over the Great Lakes has brought steady, and occasionally heavy, rain across Metro Detroit since Thursday morning. A storm along the East Coast has stopped the normal flow of weather keeping us stuck in this wet weather pattern. We're on the extreme west edge of all the rain.

As a matter of fact, areas as close as Grand Rapids will see a little sun the next couple of days. However, we're not done with the rain yet here! Rain will continue to fall this evening before eventually tapering off later tonight. Redeveloping showers are still in the forecast for Saturday before we finally dry out on Sunday.
This soaking rainstorm has produced 24-hour rainfall amounts exceeding 1.5" in areas near and south of Detroit. An additional .5"-1" will still be possible in some spots by tonight. To put this in perspective, Detroit averages 3.38" of rainfall for the entire month of May, so we are well on our way to seeing an above average month.
On the bright side, all this rain has helped the lawns and gardens with planting season just a week away. Around Mother's Day, May 12-15, is our average frost-free time.
