MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Macomb County prosecutors have charged a man who fired multiple shots at a Roseville police officer at Home Depot on Monday.
Victor Oliver was charged with assault with intent to murder -- a maximum life felony -- and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, which carries a mandatory two years in prison.
A judge set bond at $1,000,000 cash or surety with no 10 percent.
On March 11 around 5 p.m., Roseville police responded to calls of an altercation at the Baymont Inn. According to police and prosecutors, it is alleged that Oliver left the hotel and walked into a nearby Home Depot located on 13 Mile Road and Little Mack.
He was openly carrying a loaded weapon, saying that "he was going to kill everyone," police say.
Police confronted Oliver in the parking lot and ordered him to drop his weapon. Oliver instead pointed his weapon at an officer and began firing. The officer fired back.
Police say multiple rounds were exchanged with Oliver struck twice -- once in the leg and once in his upper right arm.
Oliver dropped his weapon and tried to escape police, but was quickly apprehended. Officers administered emergency medical attention, placed the man into an ambulance with a police escort, and took him to a hospital for treatment.
“This Defendant walked into a crowded store with evil intentions. If not for the prompt, diligent actions of the Roseville Police, today our community could be mourning the tragedy of a mass shooting,” said Prosecutor Smith. “In my 25 plus years as a prosecuting attorney, I rarely have seen such bravery and self-control exhibited by a group of police officers. The Roseville Police acted in exemplary fashion and should be commended!”
Right now, Oliver is under supervision at the hospital. He is due in court on March 20.
