Summer vacation is now officially over and 1.5 million Michigan kids are back to school. From first year kindergartners to those entering their senior year of high school, their education has a direct impact on their future. How we as parents and adults support them can be the difference between a life of success or failure.
Children and teenagers are diamonds in the rough deserving of a healthy educational start. Each year marks a new beginning with new opportunities. It’s also a partnership that involves our entire community.
Our professional educators work hard to create an exciting, creative and positive learning environment. But they need you to help them nurture our next generation of leaders. Make sure your children are in school consistently. Across America, 10-thousand public schools have chronic absentee rates. More than 600 are in Michigan alone.
Students also need good nutrition, proper exercise and rest, and a quiet place to do their homework. If your home or neighborhood doesn’t provide that environment, we encourage you to go to the nearest public library.
Make sure you attend parent-teacher conferences and school programs. Do whatever you can to be involved with your child’s education. Teachers want and need your support!
