BERKLEY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police say a Berkley middle school student will face felony assault charges for stabbing another student. They say a simple argument between the two students ended in violence in a classroom at Andersen Middle School, with one student attacking the other with scissors.

“Everybody knows he’s a really good kid and nobody would think he’d deserve something to happen to him like that” says student Cameron Night. Police say the suspect is a 13 year old girl and the victim a 13 year old boy. It took place on Tuesday just before 2 pm.

Witnesses are cooperating with police. “We want all kids at any school to understand if you have an issue just talk to a teacher. We have adults. Counselors. Principals to handle those situations” says Lt. Andrew Hadfield.

In part of a statement to Action News, the district is reminding parents that safety remains a top priority. In the meantime, the girl arrested has been removed form the school. The boy sustained non life threatening injuries, and is expected to be released form the hospital soon.
