DETROIT (WXYZ) — "This very dangerous suspect is in custody," Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters Thursday about the 51-year-old man suspected in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman who was sitting in a car parked outside a liquor store Tuesday night.
The suspect was arrested Wednesday night, just a a few hours after police released surveillance photos.
The woman's ordeal began Tuesday night when she and her sister went to the store on West McNichols at Gilchrist.
The victim's sister was driving and she went into the store alone. The victim was in the passenger seat of their vehicle when the armed attacker got into the car with her.
The attacker drove off with the woman, taking her to the area of Trinity and West McNichols, about two miles west of the store, where she was sexually assaulted.
The man then ran away.
Wednesday night police received tips that the suspect could be found in the area where the sexual assault took place. He has a distinctive characteristic, a missing finger.
The man was arrested without incident and he's expected to be arraigned later this week.
