A suburban community is fighting to keep its police force after learning city leaders are considering outsourcing those jobs.

Emotions ran high during a meeting in Keego Harbor Thursday night.

People spoke out over being kept in the dark, when it comes to keeping their cops."

a steady stream of citizens come to voice opposition to Keego Harbor leaders considering a possible contract with nearby West Bloomfield for police services.

Some were also concerned about the four full time and 16 part time officers who could be losing their jobs and what would happen to the city's 90 second average response time, not to mention the lack of transparency by Keego Harbor's mayor and others.

The mayor insists nothing has been decided yet, but several options are being explored now.

He also tells us council hasn't extended the chief's contract that ends July 1st - but the chief himself is not clear as to why.

"It seems interesting I've never had a complaint and the only answer I get is we're not going to renew your contract," says Chief Kenneth Hurst.

So far, no specific timeline being given.
