Pastor Mario Chadinha of Highland Hills Baptist Church in Highland Township tells 7 Action News it was about 7:00 am when he confronted a suspected burglar.
He says it was soon after he discovered signs of breaking and entering at the church, and he managed to detain the 22-year-old man whom he had never seen before.
With help from his son who is an Assistant Pastor, they waited till deputies arrived and arrested the man.
Deputies say the suspect admitted to breaking in, and had done so twice before. They also say they found a large amount of cash in his pockets that was stolen from the church office.
The suspect is now being held at the Oakland County Jail, and awaiting charges.
The pastor tells us "I still feel very safe at church and sorry that the young man chose to do this instead of asking for help."
He's also thankful no one was hurt.
