(WXYZ) — Loved ones of 65-year-old Chrysler retiree Theodore Walling describe him as a loving and devoted family man, living in Jamaica and dedicating time to the community.

An attorney familiar with the police investigation says Walling is originally from Oakland County, and was living in Jamaica following after his retirement.

The attorney says, so far, no arrests have been made in the deadly stabbing, discovered by hotel workers on Thursday.

“He was committed to the betterment of Jamaica, the betterment of the island. He was involved with all kind of community groups from Negril to Montego Bay,” says attorney Ed Zelenak, who also represents a community group in Jamaica.

The crime took place at a small hotel in Montego Bay, known as the Hotel Gloriana.

Family members say Walling was also involved in a jewelry business in Jamaica, suggesting robbery could have occurred during the crime.

“The man left his job and retired here to help Jamaica and improved a lot in Jamaica” says Zelenak.

Loved ones say Teddy donated clothing, shoes and other possessions to children in need. They say his legacy of generosity & kindness lives on.
