DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Two Dearborn teachers are getting recognition for saving the life of a student.

Emily Bartley and Brian Courtright were honored by the Board of Education during a ceremony Tuesday night.

In October, eighth grader Mohammad Hannawi and other swim team members were in the pool at Unis Middle School where they are all students.

Hannawi had a medical emergency and went under the water. Officials say he had an unknown heart condition.

Bartley jumped into the pool, pulled him out and began CPR. She was joined by Courtwright, who assisted in providing first aid.

Hannawi made a full recovery. Doctors credited the actions of Bartley and Courtright for saving the boy's life.
