NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Northville Township officials are warning residents to be cautious of newly-formed ice after a scary incident over the weekend.
Authorities say that on Sunday, a person fell through newly-formed ice at Maybury State Park.
A young man reportedly went on the ice-covered pond to retrieve a drone, which was near the edge of a small island. He climbed out of the water and was able to make it over to the island, where he called for help.
Authorities say that emergency responders swam out to the victim in ice rescue suits. They had the victim get into a dry suit and brough him back across the ice. Although the young man was shaken, he was not harmed, authorities say.
Northville Township officials say that ice is not a substitute for land, and urged caution when walking across ice.
