Man barricaded inside Romulus home near Wayne and Wick roads surrenders

Police say the suspect has surrendered and is in custody.

7:17 p.m.

A child who was in the home with the barricaded man has been released and is said to be safe.

Michigan State Police are talking with the suspect, who is still barricaded inside a home. They say the man has been shot.

Officers say the situation began as an attempted carjacking at the Marathon Gas Station on Wayne and Wick. The suspect ran into the nearby neighborhood, where police say he confronted a neighbor in a nearby backyard and shot the man's dog.

The dog was killed.

Police then arrived on the scene and exchanged shots with the suspect. He ran into another home. 

Two kids were inside at the time. one of them was able to get out. The other is the child who was just released.

7:08 p.m.

Romulus police are asking people to avoid the area of Wayne and Wick roads because of an ongoing situation.

Officers on the scene say a man has barricaded himself in a home in the area. He is believed to be injured.

People who are in the area are being advised to stay inside.

Multiple streets in the area have been blocked off.

Police say they will release more information as it develops.
