(WXYZ) — As a result of the federal shutdown, local leaders are standing up to help those affected.
In Ferndale, Mayor Dave Coulter says all city bills including taxes and water bills will be collected at a later date for federal workers not receiving a paycheck. Also, payment plans are being made available.
In Oakland County, Treasurer Andy Meisner says he is also offering payment plans and delayed options for those who owe unpaid taxes and are federal employees without a paycheck.
During a news conference Tuesday, the elected leaders said the decisions of government must be in the best interests of the people. They remain committed to offering help during this difficult time.
