DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Wayne State Police Department is warning the community of two incidents on campus.
Two robberies occurred within minutes of each other and 400 feet apart around midnight Wednesday into Thursday on the south edge of campus, police say.
The first incident occurred in front of 667 West Hancock and the other at 2nd Avenue and Hancock. Both robberies involved a handgun, suspects fitting similar descriptions and driving a black sedan.
On Oct. 23 at approximately 11:55 p.m., a 38-year-old researcher reported he was the victim of a robbery on West Hancock. He told police he was walking home when two suspects pulled up to the curb and approached him, holding handguns. After taking property from the victim, the suspects headed east on West Hancock towards 2nd Avenue. The victim was not injured.
At approximately 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 24, a 20-year-old student told police he was walking southbound on the west side of 2nd Avenue and crossing West Hancock when a black sedan stopped in front of him. The two suspects exited the vehicle and threatened him with a handgun. They took the victim's backpack with property, as well as his cell phone, keys and wallet from his pants. The suspects drove away in the black sedan southbound on 2nd Avenue.
Both incidents are under investigation. Police say the suspects are believed to be the same in both incidents.
