BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (WXYZ) — A shop in Birmingham is getting some love from Oprah. We’re talking about Bateel, a store that specializes in gourmet dates.
They were mentioned as one of Oprah’s Favorite Things in the December edition of O Magazine. It’s a holiday gift guide.
Bateel is an international company that has only one shop in the US. It's on Old Woodward in Birmingham.
On page 70 of this month’s O Magazine you will find a $79 gift box from Bateel.
Co-owner Nadia Hamoudi says Bateel reached out to Oprah’s team in hopes of making the list.
“We are all about gifting, so we sent them gifts to see, look if you want a gift this is the place.”
And Oprah agreed, letting Nadia know only a few weeks before the magazine hit newsstands.
“They just kind of prepared us and said ‘be ready.’”
Bateel opened two years ago. After this mention, they say business has gone up.
Bateel offers dates filled with nuts or some that are chocolate covered, but Oprah chose plain one because they are low-calorie.
Nadia says it’s perfect for friends who eat healthy, gluten-free, sodium-free.
“Vegetarian, somebody who is vegan, who is conscious about having a kosher gift.”
