BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — It’s a critical decision at the polls in early March that will shape the future of public safety in Bloomfield Township.

In one of the safest communities in Michigan, currently the police and fire chiefs say voters need to know voting “yes” on a millage renewal March 10 won’t cost taxpayers additional money.

“We are very proud of an average response time of five minutes or less, and we want to make sure we continue that same level of service,” says Fire Chief Mike Morin.

The township tells us the average homeowner is currently paying roughly $270 a year.

He also adds, that a “no” vote could result in 20 to 25 firefighters' jobs being cut, privatization of EMS services and the closing of two firehouses.

Bloomfield Township police tell 7 Action News they also have 20 to 25 jobs on the line.

Both chiefs tell us they are willing to meet with anyone to answer additional questions about the upcoming vote. For more info, click on the link: https://www.bloomfieldtwp.org/Government/Millage-2020.aspx
