Detroit police detective still on the job after being arrested for drunk driving in Auburn Hills

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Detroit police detective is under an Internal Investigation after being arrested for Operating Under the Influence in Auburn Hills.

Police there say a person driving in I-75 called to say a car was swerving at midnight on April 30th. They pulled the car over and the driver was Noe Garcia, III a Detective in the 3rd Precinct. He’s been in DPD for 16 years and sources say he’s a good cop who made a mistake. This is his first offense.

Dashcam video shows he was given roadside sobriety tests including walking and turning and standing on one leg and counting.

His roadside BAC was .144 almost double the legal limit of .08 and above the legal limit to carry a gun which is .02.

Garcia cooperated, showing his CPL, badge and ID card. Auburn Hills Police found two handguns and ammo in the car.

Garcia is on the job without his gun. The arrest is a misdemeanor.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig has a peer support program for officers who have issues with substance abuse and PTSD. This is Garcia’s first offense.
