HOLLY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Two 13-year-old teens are okay after being rescued from the Shiawassee River while tubing.

The teens from Davisburg and White Lake were floating down the river at around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday when their inner tube was punctured and began to sink. They were able to call for help and grab hold of a tree branch near the river's edge to stay safe until the first responders arrived.

While the Oakland County Sheriff's Department's Marine Unit and Dive Team were dispatched to the scene in the 470 block of Academy, the teens were pulled to safety by firefighters before they arrived. The teens were tired, but were not injured.

Officials say they were not wearing life jackets

The investigation is ongoing.
